We’ve all heard the statistics. Here are some:
Approximately 25,000 people die each day of hunger or related causes.
It is estimated that a child dies every five seconds from hunger-related causes.
About 26,500 children die daily of preventable causes related to their poverty.
And so on.
But you’ve all heard these statistics, or roughly know them. And maybe you’ve thought, “I can’t do much about all these children. There are too many of them!”
You’re right. There are many of them – an incredible, shocking number of children dying each day while we live in relative luxury (no matter how much you don’t think so). But imagine you could help one of them. Just one. Imagine that one person was staying right next to you, and dying right now. Wouldn’t you do all you can to save that person?
Come Monday, 21 May 2012, RELEVANT and World Vision Micro aim to raise $100,000 over a single day to fund many, many small business owners in developing countries.
Micro-funding helps parents to be able to break out of the poverty cycle. Rather than just using the money to sustain themselves for the short term, this cash is instead used to start or expand a business. This means that the money is multiplied, and helps to sustain the life of the parents and their families over the long term. Better yet, a thriving business that employs others helps those employees to survive too. Your loan will help families to survive.
You know my heart for the poor. This is my call to all of you. Let’s make a difference in the lives of fellow human beings who deserve to have a chance to live their lives.

Apparently we cannot donate to this cause because we are not American. I am not put off by this. World Vision Singapore has their own Vision Fund, which does exactly the same thing – micro-funding. Though we cannot participate in Micro Monday, this is no reason for us to stand by and not do anything about it.
New goal: $500 to support 2 Vision Fund families in Cambodia.
